The Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) would like to bring to your kind notice that since the conduct of the first Parliamentary and Local Government Elections under the Constitution a total of six rounds of Bye-elections had to be conducted till now, of which eight vacancies resulting from the untimely death of the elected members in vehicle accidents.

As a matter of fact, we are currently conducting, upon the death of the incumbent Tshogpa in a road accident, Bye-election for the Gewog Tshogde Tshogpa of Phuyang_Yalang Demkhong, Tashi Yangtse Dzongkhag, with the Poll Day on 31st of March 2014.

Such deaths are a great loss to the Nation, the constituency and the family as well as having huge financial implications is the conducts of these Bye-elections have so far cost a total of Nu.3.149 Millions.

Therefore, the ECB would like to urge and remind all our elected office holders to take extra care while travelling and driving.

Yours sincerely,
