The Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) hereby informs the general public that the Commission has been receiving numerous queries regarding the actions that it has taken on political parties/candidates for their wrongdoings or contraventions of the electoral laws.
Political parties/candidates/supporters have at some point of time been issued with either warnings or levied fines, based on the nature of wrongdoings or contraventions of the electoral laws. Additionally, the political parties have, time and again, been reminded that actions can also include disqualification of the party or cancellation of candidature in the current election process.
In this regard, the ECB would like to once again remind all political parties, candidates, coordinators and supporters to strictly comply with the provisions of the electoral laws at all times. It is a known fact that awareness has been repeatedly carried out through various mediums on the consequences that political parties, candidates and supporters would face in the event of violations of the electoral laws.
In our endeavour towards holding free, fair and transparent elections, the ECB reminds all political parties, candidates, coordinators and supporters to refrain from engaging in any activity that is in contravention with the electoral laws.
