News Release- 4th ECB Conference, 2015

The Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) organized its 4th Conference at Gelegphu from 14th to 16th of January, 2015 on the theme “Taking Stock of ECB Programmes Since Inception”.

The main purpose of the Conference was to review together the various programmes being undertaken and further prepare for the Local Government Election 2016. The Conference was attended by the Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner, Election Commissioners, Secretary and all the officials from the Head Office and the 20 Dzongkhag Election Offices.

During the Conference, the following documents were released and launched:

  1. Democracy Board Game;
  2. E-Learning Course;
  3. 20 Dzongkhag Websites;
  4. Report of the First National Voter’s Day; and
  5. ECB Disaster Management Manual 2015.

Specifically, the Conference deliberated on activities undertaken since completion of the conduct of Second Parliamentary Elections and the implementation of recommendations of the Learning from Experience Programme (LEP) for Second Parliamentary Elections. The issues related to Electoral Roll and Delimitation including the One Stop Electoral Registration, Biometrics and E-Roll Status and the Dzongkhag-wise Status Report on Dzongkhag Thromde/Yenlag Thromde Delimitation exercise were reviewed.

Presentations were made on Administration and Finance; Electoral and Voter Education; Human Resource; the Study on Determinants of Voter’s Choice and Ways to Facilitate Women in Elective Posts; the Bhutan Democracy Dialogue; and  Independence of ECB.

The Democracy House and Dzongkhag Offices Sites and Building plans were presented and the in-house review report of the ECB’s Welfare Scheme and recent Inventory exercise were reviewed.
