The Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) would like to update the general public on the nomination process and related electoral activities that have been completed in accordance with the Election Schedule as provided in the Notification calling the Fourth Dzongkhag Thromde Tshogde Elections in Phuentshogling and Thimphu Dzongkhag Thromdes on 11 June 2026.

2. As per the Final Electoral Roll of 15 June 2026, the total registered voters for the two Thromdes is 10,309.

3. Postal Ballot


Of the 47 applications rejected, 15 applicants were not registered voters of Phuentshogling and Thimphu Thromdes, while 32 did not meet the eligibility criteria to be a postal voter.
The election campaign commenced on 21 June 2026 and will continue until the commencement of the No Campaign Period on 13 July 2026. Within this period, Common Forums will be conducted in Phuentshogling from 29 June to 1 July 2026 and in Thimphu from 29 June to 3 July 2026. The forums provide opportunity for voters to hear from the candidates in person and shall be held as per the schedule announced by the concerned Dzongkhag Election Authorities.
4. The next major electoral event will be the Public Debate for candidates contesting the post of Thrompon. The debates will be conducted in collaboration with the Bhutan Broadcasting Service Corporation (BBSC) as follows:
● 25 June 2026 – At the College of Science and Technology in Phuentshogling Thromde.
● 27 June 2026 – At the RUB Conference Hall in Thimphu Thromde.
The ECB urges all eligible voters to follow the public debates and election campaigns to make a well-informed choice on Poll Day.
The Poll Day for the Thromde Elections 2026 is scheduled for 15 July 2026. The Election Commission calls upon all registered voters of Phuentshogling and Thimphu Thromdes to actively participate in the democratic process by turning out to vote on Poll Day or through the Postal Ballot and Early Voting facilities, where applicable.
The ECB would also like to remind all candidates, election representatives and voters to continue observing the Electoral Laws, Rules and Regulations, and the Election Code of Conduct to ensure that the elections are conducted in a free, fair, peaceful and transparent manner.
