National Voter’s Day

The Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) celebrates the Fourth National Voters’ Day (NVD) on 15th of September 2017 on the theme “Mission 2018: Participation By All In The 3rd Parliamentary Elections” in all 20 Dzongkhags. While the national function is being held in Gelegphug, Sarpang Dzongkhag, all Dzongkhags and Democracy Clubs will be marking the day.

The primary objective of the day is to enthuse the citizenry and encourage them to engage meaningfully in the democratic process. This year, as the Election Commission of Bhutan shifts its focus to the Parliamentary Election 2018, this national event – National Voters’ Day – gives platform to renew afresh our commitment to the Vibrant Democracy Envisioned by our Visionary Monarchs and enshrined in our Constitution.

The planned activities for the day include:

  1. Awarding of Voter Photo Identity Cards (VPIC) to those newly turned 18-years of age, mitsi transfer and Re-issue to old voters
  2.  Administration of the Voter’s Pledge;
  3. Youth Speak;
  4. Party Forum for representatives of the registered political party; and
  5. Elocution Programme, poster competition etc. highlighting the importance of voting.

The National Voters’ Day is a call to all voters to remind them of the important and central role and responsibility of a voter in a democratic society: a society governed through the freely expressed will of the people as enshrined in the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bhutan. Therefore, we would like to invite the worthy citizens and voters of the Kingdom to join us in any of the Dzongkhags.
