Declaration of the Results of Bye-Election and Vacant Demkhong Election for the posts of Gewog Tshogde Tshogpas

The Election Commission of Bhutan is pleased to hereby declare, as required under Section 457 of the Election Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan 2008, the Results of the Bye-Election to the post of Gewog Tshogde Tshogpa in Gomsoom chiwog under Tsirang Dzongkhag and Local Government election in
two vacant demkhongs of Tshothang chiwog under Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag and Wangdrog chiwog under Thimphu Dzongkhag.

The details of the candidates who have been successfully elected as Gewog Tshogde Tshogpas are as follows:

The overall Voter Turnout and Registered Voter information are as follows:

(1) Total Registered Voters = 518 (263 Male & 255 Female)
(2) Total Number of Votes Cast (EVM) = 177 (85 Male & 92 Female)
i. EVM= 177
ii. Postal Ballot= 80
(3)  Voter Turnout= 257 (49.61 %)

As no voter came forward to file nomination for the post of Gewog Tshogde Tshogpa in Narphung chiwog under Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag, the seat will have to remain vacant. A total of 7 demkhongs remain vacant in the Second Local Government, including 5 for the post of Gewog Tshogde Tshogpa and 2 for Dzongkhag Thromde Ngotshab, where no voters have stepped forward so far to stand as a candidate.

It is also hereby being notified that as per Section 580 of the Election Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan, 2008, the member elected to fill the casual vacancy shall only serve for the remainder term of the 2nd Local Government. The Election Petition period starts from 23 rd of April 2019 and shall end at 5.00 p.m. on 10 th of May 2019.
