The Democracy Clubs were established as mini-Election Commissions to conduct elections and organize events and activities that promote understanding of the Bhutanese electoral system and processes, democratic governance and institutions, and encourage student participation in school or educational institution’s decision-making process.

To take the Democracy Clubs further, the Bhutan Children’s Parliament is being established with the adoption of its Constitution as an opportunity for children to not only hone their leadership skills and be well informed but also to voice their ideas, thoughts and feelings so that their concerns and opinion can be heard and included in the social and political landscape.

The original shall be kept under the custody of the ECB and copies of The Constitution of the Bhutan Children’s Parliament shall be issued to all stakeholders thereafter.

During the Ceremony, the following documents will be released and launched:

The adoption of the Constitution shall be followed by a Working Session with the Student and Teacher representatives of the Democracy Clubs, the twenty Dzongkhag Education Officers and the Election Commission of Bhutan.

The session shall include presentations on various aspects of the BCP and deliberation on the operation and functioning of the BCP as well as sorting out of various coordination and other matters related to Democracy Clubs.
